Introduction to Pow! Wow! School of Photography
Pow! Wow! School of Photography was created from an idea of continuing to bring good things and good people together. Jasper Wong and Kamea Hadar created Pow! Wow! in 2010 on the island of Hawaii, and it always felt like a place where artists from all over the world were coming together to hang out, create, share their stories, and experience community through the aloha spirit, and I wanted to be a part of that.
This new program, for me, feels like a calling to give back to an artform that has contributed so much to me; a chance to challenge myself and others to see the impossible as possible when you band together. It’s also a reminder to let photographers of all levels know that they are not alone, that there is a community out there to support them.
As an artist, I’ve been blessed with a lifelong journey to figure out what it takes to survive, to evolve, fall down, get up, and fall in love, over and over again. Because I love photography as much as I do and for as long as I have, it not only became engrained in my life, it also became the tool that taught (and continues to teach) me many lessons and shapes the individual that I am today. Photography has given me opportunities to travel the world, but best of all, it has connected me to so many amazing people who turned into my friends and family.
